Short Bio
Slated as one of the best up and coming singer/songwriters in Pennsylvania, Hugh Ross has seen the world through a myriad of lenses. Throughout comparatively short though active lifetime Hugh has lived in just about every state on the Eastern sea board, climbed mountains, jumped from planes, rode the rapids, and watched the sun rise over the ocean on a winter’s morning. Aside from his many talents singing, playing guitar, and writing music he is also an architectural assistant for a Williamsport, PA design firm. Hugh says of his current employment, “It’s great but before I got the cushy desk job I had some real tough gigs. I worked everything from drainage survey in 100+ degree weather to making garage doors at the speed of light. I have a real respect for the guy that gets up and goes to a back breaking heavy labor job and still comes home and mows the lawn, hugs the wife, and tucks his kids in a night. Those guys are hardcore.”
Currently Hugh is promoting his debut album “Red Dye #5”. “It’s great to finally realize a dream that I’ve been chasing for so long. I think that people are going to be pleasantly surprised with the results.” Ranging from down and dirty acoustic numbers to full chamber orchestra backup “Red Dye #5” showcases the best of Hugh’s songwriting talents as he draws on influences including "Caedemon's Call", "Third Day", and an entire host of classic rockers. “Yeah, there were some songs that I wanted to include” says Hugh, “but if everything goes well then the next album will have those forgotten favorites and more.” Of his fellow musicians and techs on the project Hugh can only say, “Great people and extremely talented.” Hugh searched the talent pool and came up with local musicians from the “Uptown Music Collective” and other local hot spots. His experiences working with Scott Francis and Hunter Wentzler of “Mind’s Eye Music Studios” and “Silver Sound Productions” respectively were “…memorable and highly enjoyable. These are guys really know what they are doing and were so open to suggestions and styles for the project. "After all (as Wentzler put it) it is my album.” Of living in the Williamsport, PA area Hugh says that it is “filled with opportunity for musicians…you just have to dig sometimes to find it.”
From coffee houses, to bars, to record stores Hugh certainly is digging and says he hopes that more and more people will come out and “…just have a good time and enjoy the show.”
Hugh currently resides in Montoursville, PA with his wife Lisa.
